Sadly, yeah. It's being seen as a tacit admission of guilt. I mean, if you had won the Tour de France seven times and never doped, wouldn't you fight these charges tooth-and-nail for the rest of your life, if need be?
Some of his defenders out there keep saying, "witch hunt". Well, things smell a bit witchy. And then in the next sentence they'll say, "well, everyone else does it anyway". Seriously, pick a point.

I actually kind of lost a friend over Lance Armstrong. He basically idolized him (this was about 10 years ago), while I've always kind of thought he's suspect. Not sure why, exactly, but my gut thought he was a liar or summat, years ago. Anyway, back when Lance was dating Sheryl Crow, post-Testicular Cancer, every time I got together with this friend, he'd rant about what a whore Sheryl Crow is, how she's ruining Lance, blah-blah-blah. After about 4 or 5 consecutive dinners of this, I kind of snapped and I told him to STFU.
The next time I tried to call him, MANY months later, he had changed his number. ;D

To be fair, Sheryl Crow is probably deeply annoying to be around in person (though I like her music).

Doping and 'roids are more a part of sports than gatorade and shin splints. When you compete at that level, it is win by any means necessary, even to the detriment of your body and your life expectancy. They know the risk and they want it bad enough to sacrifice their life, ultimately. Sadly, as adults they have the right to make that choice, and we as spectators have the right to walk away, but we don't.

Oh, dear...now I'm mortified that my story came off as me sounding like I was pro-Sheryl. I kind of miss the days when everybody didn't lick their chops in anticipation of seeing people they've put on a pedestal getting knocked down. There's always been fame, and there's always been fame that's achieved by questionable ethics, but it's really only been in the last 15 or so years that people have found it more entertaining watching people fall than seeing them on their way up.

Though I gotta confess, I kinda appreciate the "Live Strong--Through Drugs!" sentiment.

Anyone else think the testicular cancer was a result of the EPO usage? We know that HGH and steroids can destroy your body (anyone remember Lyle Alzado?), my guess is using EPO came with a price as well.

Like everything else, being guilty isn't a death sentence anymore. Mark McGwire should be banned from the game, but he's a coach for the Cardinals and shows absolutely no shame for his past transgressions, which everybody knows included steroids.
And Roger Clemens? The guy is trying to make yet another comeback. Tell me he doesn't have some interesting chemicals in his system. There is no other way for a man that age to get back to the majors. No way in hell.

1. Lance is a dick for leaving his wife after he was cured of cancer so he could fuck the likes of Sherryl Crow.
2. Sheryl Crow killed Kevin Gilbert

People on the net have mentioned, it's been a strange weekend for "heroes" named Armstrong. One disgraces himself and isn't a hero at all really. And the other one, we're reminded of his amazing feats and accomplishments, was even more of a hero than we imagined. It's a funny symmetry there. Pretty peppery and right-on look at Lance A over on Slate: "In throwing away his seven Tour de France titles, he’s keeping what he prizes most: his righteous indignation." "Rather than fight for his innocence against a system that was rigged against him, Armstrong said he was “finished with this nonsense.” He continued, “I will no longer address this issue, regardless of the circumstances. … Going forward, I am going to devote myself to raising my five beautiful (and energetic) kids, fighting cancer, and attempting to be the fittest 40-year old on the planet.” This has been Armstrong’s default mode for a decade: angry, defensive, paranoid, self-aggrandizing, and messianic. This isn’t just a defense mechanism—it’s a brand. This is the only thing you need to read to realize this whole thing makes zero sense and smacks of a resentful witch hunt: "If Tour de France officials follow USADA's lead and announce that Armstrong has been stripped of his titles, Jan Ullrich could be promoted to champion in three of those years. Ullrich was stripped of his third-place finish in the 2005 Tour and retired from racing two years later after being implicated in another doping scandal.STORYArmstrong took hundreds of tests...300-500...maybe more...over the course of his career and aced them all, but they're relying on the heresy of known juicers to disgrace him.
