Against all our better instincts we went to "Skyfall" yesterday. What a terrible waste of time and money for both audience and actors.

Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond, second to Sean Connery of course. I'll probably still check it out.

I'd like to see Clive Owen as Bond. Craig was an odd choice, like hiring Tobey Maguire to play Spider Man. He doesn't suck, but he brings the wrong dynamic to the character.
Owen is a master of understatement, just as Connery was. Craig, on the other hand, broadcast his understatement so even the dumbest guy in the crowd understands "Oh, I'm supposed to laugh here."
Sad to see the franchise succumb to the dumb.

I think Idris Elba would make a kick ass Bond.

I think Idris Elba would make a kick ass Bond. NO! That would mean no more Luther!

And he can't do both because...

Because Luther is awesome.

Saw the "Silver Lining" movie this weekend. Basically a romantic chick flick featuring crazy people, but very well done. I enjoyed it even though I was prepared to dislike it. Good to see Bobby D. commit to a role that was worthy of his talents. I love that guy but his choices of roles/paydays of late have been terrible and unbecoming of his career. This one was a good move.

Loved, loved, loved "Anna Karenina." I love my period dramas, but this is on a completely different level. The staging is brilliant and Keira deserves a nod for her portrayal of the hot mess that is Anna.
We also caught "Skyfall" which I thoroughly enjoyed. It could have used some serious editing, but it was solid all the same.

I remember, right about the time Pierce Brosnan took over the role, that Bowie was being considered for the next Bond.
How awesome would THAT have been?

Bowie would have been awesome, but he's really not the physical type.

Saw "Flight". It was enjoyable but, man, talk about pointless.
I will say that the opening scene, Denzel talking to his ex-wife on the phone while a naked stewardess shows off her tremendous form in the background was well worth the price of admission.

Bowie would have been awesome, but he's really not the physical type. Perfect. That would have forced them into a rethink of who and what Bond is. It could have worked for a 2-3 movie cycle.
