The previews give you absolutely no indication of funny, but I've heard raves from everyone whose taste in movies I respect.

Dallas Buyers Club was pretty good. Can't believe how much weight Matthew Mc. lost for that role. It was disturbing to see at times. I didn't have much use for Jared Leto as an actor before this flick, but I have to give him props for not hamming up the role. He nailed it. Matthew Mc kept the weight off for HBO's "True Detective" series, which may be better than any movie he has ever done. Not a Jared Leto fan, but he was unrecognizable in that role. Pretty amazing.

Yeah, I'm two episodes into True Detective and it's already riveting stuff. Matthew and Woody are both absolutely knocking the ball outta the park. Looks like they're really having some fun with it.

The thing about Dallas Buyer's Club is that the acting is what makes it. They are both amazing and it would have been a very different movie without them. They both deserve the Oscar in my opinion.

So bored today we finally went to Godzilla, figuring the decent reviews and Bryan Cranston would make it worthwhile. I'm often wrong, but rarely this wrong. Horrible.
On the other hand "Beware of Mr. Baker" is now streaming on Netflix (and may have been for a while, I'm always last to the party). Oh. My. Fucking. God. Great documentary (except for the cheesy animated parts where they didn't have footage). The names they got to appear on camera, the stories told, the historic footage -- you could be completely unfamiliar with Ginger Baker's work and be completely captivated by this. Totally raw.

Anyone see "Super Mensch" yet?
Also- planning a weekend in front of the flat screen- I deserve it- I want lush period dramas- lots of costumes and high brow talk. Any suggestions from the recently released? I've been reading up and think I should see Elizabeth, The Ann Boleyn Movie, The Duchess with Kiera Knightly, and Marie Antionette- I know I'm likely asking the wrong group- but any of you see any of these?
