Dammit, you beat me to the punch on this one, DannyA! As documented in my REVIEW, the performance seems a little Pro Tool-y, but the tune itself isn't bad. Just seeing Prince playing a conventional pop tune from start to finish is encouraging.

Listening to the B-52s.
"Ain't it a Shame" was one I loved as an unhappy teenager. "I'll leave this damn town/ and never come back." It's a sweet and pretty song. About being unhappy. Albeit in an adult relationship, narrative-wise.
The other, and much newer one is "Juliet of the Spirits". That's kind of also about young heartache, but immensely positive. Advice to a younger person about how much potential she has inside her. Saw them play this at The Police's last concert at MSG, loved it muchly. (I enjoyed the B-52s opening set a lot more than the Police's "last" concert, btw. They sounded great, had everyone up and dancing. )
Juliet I can feel your glow Of passions ready to explode Secrets you've kept should all be told Like blossoms ready to unfold
Juliet you're not afraid anymore Juliet - Juliet, I'm not afraid anymore
Sweet love's coming on Girl can you hear it? Steppin' into sunshine Juliet of the Spirits
Pleasure is calling you Girl can you hear it? Sweet love honey's what you need Juliet I can feel it
Spirits let your cool light shine Visions swirling let me tell you mine You're a force of nature can't be controlled You know you've got it girl, come on and let it show
Juliet you're not afraid anymore Juliet - Juliet, I'm not afraid anymore
Sweet love's coming on Girl can you hear it? Steppin' into sunshine Juliet of the Spirits
Pleasure is calling you Girl can you hear it? Sweet love honey's what you need Juliet I can feel it Lady be cool Set your pleasure free Lady don't you be a fool Let your pleasure go-go-go-go Buy "Juliet of the Spirits" on

Albeit in an adult relationship, narrative-wise. I love this record, partly because of its melancholy. Nobody agrees with me, but in some ways, I think it's their best record. The fact that Ricky Wilson died, quickly and surprisingly, during the making of the record only adds to the emotional impact of a song like this.

This isn't normally my cup of tea, but I cannot stop listening to this album.

Tegan and Sara? More like Wilson and Phillips! I love T&S with most of my being, but just cannot find the handle on the new record. I love the lo-fi quirky goodness, but this "hit machine" treatment rounds off the edges I love so much.

Understand completely, which is why I posted this in the "guilty pleasures" thread. Initially, I was aghast, but then I spent a little time with it, and the songs are just so catchy. And no autotune, so it gets a pass from me.
I haven't decided if this is an attempt at a cash grab or if they're just challenging themselves to see what they can do.
And is it just me, or is this turning out to be an exceptionally good year for music? Two of my current favorite albums (and also to re-establish my hipster cred post Tegan & Sara gushing):

saw Graham Parker and the Rumour one or two years after this show and the intensity was gone (they broke up soon after). I'd have killed to see this '79 tour. Video is crappy, sound is OK.

My shuffle makes me think my iPod has the best music in the world on it (yes, I have an iPhone, but all my music is still on my iPod Classic).

Wow, Richard Hawley. This just floored me. I've never come across him before. Looks like I've got some exploring to do...

Crap, I need to get my hands on some new OMD. Please tell me they didn't go nuts with the auto-tune.

Nope. Could be the follow up to A&M or Dazzle Ships
