The session took about 3 hours, but a lot of that was waiting for them to drop the tracks into the video and futs with the timing. A lot of it was sitting around waiting for the client to approve remotely. I think I probably put in about an hour of actual mic time for the 4 spots.

When you become the new face and voice of some mega-bucks cellular provider or insurance company, I hope you'll still kick it with us regular folks!

Haha, thanks for the support, you guys. I'm not gonna go getting a big head or anything! Just really happy to be doing kind of well at something I really love doing.

Not to be too nosey, but is it flat fee or do you get more if the spots catch on? I only ask because one of those guys with guitars in the Geico commercials is a friend of mine's godson. Those commercials took off and he made a half-million dollars for what was one week's work (apologies if I've already posted that story here). They called him and the other guy back for two more weeks of work that will make him even more.

Wow, that's a lot of scratch. Wonder how much Eddie Money's making off his spot.

They called him and the other guy back for two more weeks of work that will make him even more. Sadly, this was a flat-rate buyout for the spots. Non-union. It's HIGHLY unlikely that the spots will every be broadcast, but if they were, I wouldn't see another penny. They really aren't intended for broadcast. A better agent might have negotiated the contract to explicitly state a renegotiation if the spots were ever to actually air in a broadcast media outlet, but that didn't happen. But you're right, union TV spots can be really lucrative, especially if they use a track you've laid down over and over again in different spots. Like, the woman who does the tagline for SC Johnson - "SC Johnson - a family company" can fucking retire now on that line alone. Because the tack it on to the end of every single commercial, and she gets paid every time like she just recorded it. That's the dream.

Wow, that's a lot of scratch. Wonder how much Eddie Money's making off his spot. Enough to support all his ex-wives and whatever remaining drug habits he still has, he said sarcastically. Actually, I'm sorry. I shouldn't make fun of Eddie Money. He's actually kind of a national treasure.

Yesterday I had lunch with a woman who works in social media for a venture capitalist. I got to meet him. She's helping me with cover letters as I'm horrible with them.
She's wonderful. The VC is really nice. They are looking for another designer. They also know plenty of start ups who need designers. I'm almost ready to just go down and rent a desk from his co-working office.
Going crazy!
