Seriously, there needs to me more self-hype here. Several people here are kicking ass and taking names (identity theft?) but we're all alluding to it in different places. Self hype ain't a bad thing. Even if you just have a good day, promote it here. This should be a thread of support, but it seems like it has turned into a thread where people don't wanna brag.
Self hype: Lost five pounds!
Carry on.

It's a little embarrassing because it's SUCH a shitty commercial. But my voiceover for my first ever commercial is going to air on Lifetime and E! Online eventually. Here's a link to it on youtube:
I recorded my audition myself in my "home studio" and was cast on the basis of that that. After I got the job I produced two more takes for them, but they ended up using my audition track in the final spot.
Since I did this job, I've booked two more, one for narration of a corporate Google marketing video - I delivered final tracks last week - and today, I'm going into a studio here in midtown to record a :30 commercial for a children's ebook that will play on Spotify radio.
I got all these jobs on my own through an internet voicebank, but I also have been freelancing with an agent who has sent me on about 4 auditions. I won't be quitting my day job anytime soon, but it feels great to be experiencing this bit of momentum doing something I've always wanted to do. I've invested quite a bit of time and money over the last 6 months with classes, private coaching, producing my demo, setting up my home studio and learning how everything works. So it's great to see it paying off a little bit.
That's my hype!

I don't think that commercial's all that bad at all! You TOTALLY have the voice for that, Rainy! I didn't realize that weight loss was hype worthy, but since we're allowed to do that, and I certainly don't have any creativity-based bragging to do, I've lost 80 lbs since the end of June. 'Course, I had "help". Now on to the next 80!

Weight loss is totally hype-worthy! Whether it's 5 pounds or 80. (80 pounds is kind of amazing, actually!) Way to go LP and DannyA!

Yay Rainy and LP! Love you both, proud of you, so happy you shared your successes with us. Here's to many more. Rainy, that was your audition? Well, it sounded perfect. Very professional, and I know you're like, "for what it is", but a jerb is a jerb, and you do have a lovely voice as we all know. (A voiceover story I've told before, but I'll tell again because I've been in contact with her recently. Anyway got to know this lovely girl online (at "Grwawker" let's call it), and it was a few years before she revealed she's the voice on the underground MUNI lines in San Francisco. A voice I had been hearing for years. "Embarcadero!", as cheery as a disembodied electronic audio announcement can be, it blew my mind to find it was her. She was paid modestly, recorded it in NYC, and has never even been to SF, and thousands of people hear her voice every day. Kind of cool, to me. )

I remember that story, Merc, and it is a very cool one. I like picturing myself in that situation, knowing the person who did that voice and living in SF, trudging home from a loooong day at work, and instantly perking up hearing the voice of someone I know telling me where I am (and where I'm going - since I might not quite be sure).

A new milestone for me...
I booked my first VO job through my agent today (all the voiceover jobs I've done so far I've found online on my own).
And it's a set a FIVE commercial TV spots for Wells Fargo bank.
The booking is on Friday afternoon. I desperately hope I do not fuck it up. Please send all positive vibes my way.

That's awesome to hear Rainy! Go easy on yourself, as this is a new deal for you. You didn't get the gig because you were some grizzled old pro, but an exciting new voice on the scene!
When I was in my first big studio, ready to cut my first vocal take, as I was exiting the control room, I dropped a huge burrito bomb and then watched from the safety of the vocal booth as the two engineers each caught a whiff and then proceeded to blame each another for the godawful stench that hung in the air like burnt popcorn.
If you find yourself on edge, and the right situation presents itself, don't be afraid to squeak one out. The ensuing hilarity will be worth the debilitating intestinal crampage.
