So, Mike here is someone i've worked with in the past, both solo and with his former band, which we actually got a #1 in the Christian Hard rock charts (which really means nothing) but he's been sending me these rough sketches of a couple songs wanting me to come up and help him produce a new batch of songs. It would be more of a hobby than anything else, but i'm thinking of doing it. I've just been out of that game for about 5 years now, but would love your imput on it. soundcloud.com/michael-sandoval-1/where-is-the-love

Wait, when did Jonesy land at KROQ?
I mean, that's awesome cuz he's the best, but I just hadn't heard about it.
AND congrats to your boys. They must have some heavy management to have landed the GNR gig...right?

Kevin has known people in the GNR camp for years, though--Dizzy Reed played on the never-released Elektra album from Kevin's first signed band, SOUL, and Del James directed a video for them at the time.

Redd Kross has a new record coming out in early August called Researching the Blues (the site won't let me embed the cover art). Deets: Redd Kross is back and delivering their signature brand of genuine rock 'n' roll with a vengeance. On August 7, Merge Records will release Researching the Blues, the first new album from Redd Kross in 15 years. Researching the Blues features 10 new songs clocking in at just under 32 minutes. With songs written by Jeff and produced and mixed by Steven, the album is by far the band’s favorite record. Steve says, “It has the most singular artistic vision of any record we’ve done. It’s just 10 really fucking awesome songs that have the ability to move you in many different ways.” Founded 34 years ago in Los Angeles during the first wave of LA punk rock by brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald (then respectively 15 and 11 years old), Redd Kross cut their teeth opening for Black Flag at a middle school graduation party. Their debut recordings caught the attention of Rodney Bingenheimer, who quickly became a fan as he spun their Ramones-inspired songs like “Annette's Got The Hits” and "I Hate My School" on the world-famous KROQ. In 2006, Jeff and Steven announced their reunion with the “classic Neurotica” line-up, joined once again by guitarist Robert Hecker (IT’S OK) and drummer Roy McDonald (The Muffs). Redd Kross have been playing to enthusiastic audiences at sold-out select shows and festivals such as the Azkena Festival; Coachella; The HooDoo Gurus’ Invitational, "Dig It Up”; All Tomorrow's Parties; and Pop Montréal. More Redd Kross tour dates to come this year! Track List: 1. Researching the Blues 2. Stay Away From Downtown 3. Uglier 4. Dracula’s Daughters 5. Meet Frankenstein 6. One of the Good Ones 7. The Nu Temptations 8. Choose to Play 9. Winter Blues 10. Hazel Eyes Redd Kross - Researching the Blues preorders will include a poster and a button. Preorders will ship to arrive on or around the release date of August 7, 2012. mergerecords.com/store/store_detail.php?catalog_id=865I'm a little disappointed that a 15-year layoff hasn't accrued more than 32 minutes of music, but obv. I'll pre-order anyway and hope for shows.

Yeah, it's just a better world with Redd Kross in it, so I'll be picking this up as soon as its available.
Saw the L.A. Times write-up, with some quotes from Steven, and thought it was odd that they ran the article in May when the album isn't due til August.
Steven has been busy as a mofo, though. I knew he was getting a lot of production work (did that first fun. album, which I loved), is playing bass in OFF!, and was even an A&R for Warner Brothers.
I've only run into Steven a couple times during my days in L.A., but I've always been intrigued by the life the MacDonald brothers must lead. While they're not exactly household names elsewhere, they seem really well-known, revered, and connected within Hollywood circles. Steven married Anna Waronker (Lenny's daughter), and Jeff is married to Charlotte from the Go-Go's.
Oddly, Jeff doesn't seem nearly as busy as Steven and I wonder what the heck he does career-wise, unless, of course, Go-Go's royalties are such that he doesn't have to slum it with a day gig.

I used to work with Charlotte's brother Vince, and he told me that the first Jewel record was very, very good to his sister financially.

My friend Heather's daughter was in a band with Astrid when they were little girls. They were adorable.
The McDonalds came from money, so I don't think that's an issue.
I wish Janet Houseden would talk more about her days as their drummer, but that's beyond bad blood there.

Here's the title song. I really like the bridge, which seems like a strange part of the song to like and reads like damning-with-faint-praise, but it's really the most Redd Kross-y aspect of the song, which is growing on me quickly: soundcloud.com/mergerecords/redd-kross-researching-the
