So there's this guy who's been a local anchor for the Chicago Public TV station for like FOREVAH, he's known for occasionally fumbling over his words, lashing into people he doesn't like and completely losing his cool, and for being an all around geeky, bumbling talking head.... His name is Phil Ponce. I used to make fun of him, but over the past few years I've come to discover he's an accomplished artist, an activist for human rights, and he raised these two gorgeous twin sons who are each pursuing a career in news just like their pops. Last night, I found out he's also a SOX fan, so I thought I'd share him singing the National Anthem with his kids at yesterday's home opener. I stand corrected, Phil is one of the coolest guys in Chi-Town. And I'm a fan. chicagotonight.wttw.com/2013/04/01/ponce-national-anthem

I'd probably be lashing into people as well if my last name was "Ponce".

I bet that she got paid well for the six words she said. Oh, and the song that Billy probably wrote. SHE KILLED KURT!

Howdid those guys NOT become huge? For the time, they had it all in spades, man. Short story: Signed to EastWest/Elektra in '94, had 12-tune debut in the can and release date set when the whole WMG Ostin/Waronker overthrow took place. Their A&R was caught in crossfire, project no longer "priority" and release cancelled...but WMG wanted $100k for the masters of what was pretty much 12 of their best 15 songs at the time. Within six months, the bass player ended up in prison on a meth-fueled weapons charge and the lead guitarist decamped to his hometown of New Orleans to escape the craziness. The former found religion while in the pen and the latter was killed in an auto crash as he was returning to LA from New Orleans about a decade ago. On a happier note, 20 years later, the significantly less hairier but more colorfully tattooed SOUL frontman now handles the same chores for the massive Goldsboro.
