Really? I'd always heard SRV turned down the invitation to tour. Never knew he got as far as rehearsing with them. You are a wealth of info. Dost thou have the bootleg of to which you are referring? www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCqtQo6cHigBoy, I"m gonna get smited (so what's new) but I found the solos masturbatory.

I have some obscure old school playlists on my iPod. This song came up last night while I was working out. Great song I didn't know about these guys when they were out but discovered them one night looking for old stuff. The Inmates - Dirty Water www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NrhE4FtqSc&feature=related

Yeah, the Inmates ... good stuff. For some reason, I bypassed their records the first time around...always thought the name was kinda meh, same with The Kingbees, Fabulous Poodles and bands of that ilk.
In a semi-related note, I see Peter Case and Paul Collins are touring together.

Speaking of Peter Case...
It's like he picked up Ric Menck's hair on eBay!
At least Steve Wynn is ever-so dreamy...

Man, I've been listening to New Model Army's Ghost Of Cain and thinking how f'ing underrated this record is. This tune alone just absolutely kicks my ass: still one of my all time favorite bands. Justin still can't get a visa to the states if he's going to be playing NMA songs.

Yeah, what is THAT about? The guy just happens to write some spot-on indictments of both the US and Britain and then he's treated like a third-class sub-human, can't gain entry to the US to play as New Model Army. I remember buying tickets to see them in Detroit when Ghost of Cain came out and then reading that both New Model Army and The Blow Monkeys had been refused visas to enter the US. The Blow Monkeys I could totally understand, har har... Freedom of speech, my hairy white ass. Man, I've been listening to New Model Army's Ghost Of Cain and thinking how f'ing underrated this record is. This tune alone just absolutely kicks my ass: still one of my all time favorite bands. had a friend recently interview justin when he came through denver, told me that the venue had posted on the marquee NMA and not justin, almost ruined his whole tour.

Speaking of Peter Case... It's like he picked up Ric Menck's hair on eBay! At least Steve Wynn is ever-so dreamy... my Steve Wynn story is that back in about 1994 I was dating a girl who was good friends with SW.. he was looking for a guitar player, and this girl put me in touch with him.. He and I talked on the phone, but ultimately I did not take the gig.. In retrospect it might have been cool to play some guitar for him back in the day..

I must have seen SRV 30 times when I lived near Austin in the 80's. The shows where he headlined were ok but it was all guitar heroics all the time, which is what the crowd clearly craved. The 20-25 times I saw him jam at the old Antones were a different story. I saw him play with Hooker, Jimmy Rogers, James Cotton, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin (numerous times) and ALWAYS he played with taste and restraint Now when he and Buddy or Collins would go head to head it was a different story, but always with their rules It was a fair fight, no behind the back shit or grandstanding The whole scene in Austin in the 80's was amazing and if you were willing to go from the Reivers, to the Buttholes to SRV (which could often be accomplished in an evening) I would stack it up against any scene anywhere at anytime. I was REALLY lucky to be there

Not to namedrop or anyting, but Mars is still agood buddy and we get reports back form the road. Everyone's kissed and made up (WITH Richard) and the band is rocking it like nobody's business worldwide, and making bank like they did in the eighties.
I like happy endings.
